A 7-year-old boy is dead and his mother is injured after someone fired shots into their bedroom while they were sleeping inside their Riviera Beach apartment early Wednesday morning.Police Chief Nathan “Nate” Osgood pointed out the bedroom to reporters at the scene and showed the shattered glass.Osgood said the shooting took place shortly after midnight while the boy, his mother and father and another child were sleeping.He said officers responded to the scene located in the 1100 block of A.C Evans Street after receiving a 911 call.”An assailant, at least one, approached this residence behind me,” Osgood said. “And on the east side of the residence fired multiple rounds inside the residence where the mother father and two kids were sleeping.”He said a 7-year old boy was struck multiple times.The child’s mother was also struck by gunfire.Both were rushed to St. Mary’s Trauma Center where the child was pronounced dead.His mother is listed in good condition.The police chief and members of the community are urging anyone with information to come forward.”You just never get used to seeing this it’s just disheartening,” Osgood said.The Founder of the Mother’s Against Murderers Association or MAMA, Angela Williams feels for the family.”I have like 460 mothers in my group who are dealing with gun violence issues,” Williams said. “This is just another one that breaks all of us.”The police said officers responded to the same apartment complex earlier in the afternoon Tuesday after getting a disturbance complaint.He said this is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-8477.The police chief says the boy attended Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School.
