Pharrell & Jay-Z Are Releasing A Song About How Tough It Is To Be An Entrepreneur

The Pharrell and Jay-Z collab is called “Entrepreneur.”

A snippet for Pharrell and Jay-Z‘s new track “Entrepreneur” has been shared alongside a curated special cover project the former has done with TIME magazine.

The 17-second snippet doesn’t offer much but does give a taste of how the track sounds. (The beat was produced by The Neptunes.)

Pharrell discussed “Entrepreneur” with TIME, and said the song was “all about how tough it is to be an entrepreneur” in the United States.

“Especially as someone of color, there’s a lot of systemic disadvantages and purposeful blockages,” he said. “How can you get a fire started, or even the hope of an ember to start a fire, when you’re starting at disadvantages with regards to health care, education, and representation?”

“The song is trying to communicate that when we stick together, treat each other better and welcome each other, there’s more money and more opportunity for everyone,” he added.

As TIME noted, the track includes some interesting lyrics from Jay-Z, such as the following: “Black Twitter, what’s that? When Jack gets paid, do you? For every one Gucci, support two FUBU’s.”

Pharrell’s curated special cover project for TIME, which is named The New American Revolution, features an essay from the producer himself, as well as conversations between Tyler, the Creator and Kenya Barris, Angela Davis and Yara Shahidi, and others.

“In assembling this project, I asked some of the most qualified people I know in every field—from Angela Davis to Tyler, the Creator, to Representative Barbara Lee—to talk with us, and with one another, about the way forward,” Pharrell wrote in his essay. “I wanted to convey a vision of a future filled with the artists, creators and entrepreneurs who can fulfill the promise of this country’s principles.”
