One of this writer’s favorite artists of the 2010s is Jidenna. The Janelle Monáe-affiliated Wondaland artist has returned a follow-up to his Insecure soundtrack song “Feng Shui,” “Black Magic Hour.”

The song is a collaborative track with Bullish Recordings, an entity synergizing the Afro/Caribbean/Latin diaspora and fronted by Steve “Rhythm” Clarke, who A&R’d Jidenna’s 85 To Africa album. “I think in these times the song becomes important because what I’m really speaking to is centralizing our power in a way that we channel our economic worth and we channel our spiritual worth into our lifestyle,” says Jidenna of the song. “I don’t believe that we can have the economic progress that we need to empower communities without the spiritual progression. And If we do not focus there, we will never see our worth in our bodies if we don’t see our worth in our spirit.”

“Black Magic Hour,” will be featured on the forthcoming project entitled African On All Sides, can be heard below.
